Mersey Tunnels Tour | Our programme of events for 2012 continues with a visit to the Mersey Tunnels Opened in 1934, the Queensway Tunnel has helped to shape Merseyside as we know it today. However, there is a lot more to the Tunnel than a "hole in the ground". This tour takes you for a unique behind the scenes look at one of the ventilation stations, learning how they work and how the Tunnel itself was constructed. You'll also see the Tunnel Control Room, where traffic flow, air quality and Tunnels systems are monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Then we'll go beneath the City to see the Tunnel road surface, and under the road surface into the depths of the Tunnel to visit the recently installed Emergency Escape Refuges, learning how they help to keep Tunnel users even safer. There are many steps to walk up and down during the tour, and it is not suitable for anybody with breathing or mobility difficulties. F Online booking is now open, and can be accessed via the button below. If you wish, you can also pay for your place(s) online.
